空氣裡充滿了各種顏色，其中最多的就是紫色和灰色，而我喜歡紫色。」

簡美蘭，1935年出生於台灣台北，現居加拿大素里。19歲開始任教於台北市雙園國小， 同時師從台灣油畫大師李石樵，曾數次於教師美展獲獎，多幅作品收藏於當時任教的學校， 對她來說是莫大的鼓勵。隨著家庭責任的增加，畫筆一度被擱置。1989年從台北市石牌國小退休，成為祖母，重拾畫筆，將生活焦點轉向藝術創作。

簡美蘭於1989至1996年間，以居住地天母及其周邊的美景與花卉為畫作主題。1996年遷居至溫哥華，為加拿大的自然風光深深吸引， 開始專注於戶外寫生。受印象派大師莫內影響，融合數十年修習佛法的心境，創造出充滿色彩與生命力的作品。

目前簡美蘭在家中教授油畫，她不僅傳承技藝，也將自己對生活的熱情和想法融入教學之中，持續在藝術領域耕耘，是一位充滿愛心的奶奶畫家。

Meilan Chien, born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1935 and currently residing in Surrey, BC, Canada, embarked on her artistic journey at 19. Balancing her duties as an elementary school teacher with her passion for painting, she found inspiration under the guidance of Taiwanese oil painting master Shih-chiao Lee. She received several awards at Teachers’ Art Exhibitions, and many of her works were collected by the school she taught at, serving as a significant encouragement. As family responsibilities grew, her painting was temporarily set aside. In 1989, after retiring from Shipai Elementary School in Taipei and becoming a grandmother, she picked up her brush again, shifting her focus back to artistic creation. 

Between 1989 and 1996, Chien’s art predominantly showcased flowers, neighbourhood, and landscapes of Taipei. Upon relocating to Vancouver in 1996, she became captivated by the grandeur of her new surroundings, sparking an enthusiasm for Plein-Air Painting. Influenced by the Impressionist master Monet and incorporating decades of Buddhist study, she produced works that are both vibrant and full of life.
